95 Mustang GTS 5.0 Fire Say
I birth a 95 GTS with a 5.0 HO motor. I fresh traded the stock intake and fuel injection system for a performer 289 intake and a 4 barrel carb.
I took out the stock ignition and opted for a 1 wire distributor. I have the timing curing for a normal 302 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. Well I can get the motor to bulge out and run with this order but i'm having extraordinary serious backfire and random pop in the exhaust and intake backfire. I have my timing set arsenic 10 degrees before top dead center. I have read different places that the 5.0 Holmium motors really habituate a 351 firing order. I tried changing my stopper wires to 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 but I couldn't even get the motor to jump. I wonder if I put on't deman to try new plug wires and plugs and judge that. The car starts rightfield up with a normal 302 firing arrange but it pops and pings at ergodic times and idles pretty rough. Giving it any gas results in even more backfire. I'm at a loss for what this could be, whatsoever help or information y'altogether have would embody greatly gratifying. Thanks

After looking into this a bit encourage I have noticed on all the firing ordination diagrams It shows the distributor turning counter dextrorotatory. I have my wires arranged in the reverse of this order. My hype wires are arranged in the standard 302 firing order with the distributor turning dextrorotary. This makes me wonder if the plot is correct how the engine is even running beingness arranged how I experience information technology. Just a thought here at work just until I bottom get home and try this I loved to put it Hera to see if anyone else had input.

Thanks so much. After looking at this it looks suchlike I had the old 302 firing guild and I had information technology connected the allocator as if it spun dextrorotatory. Not sure how it even started up and ran like that LOL only After I changed it to the 351 kindling order and for a counter clockwise spinning distributor she fired right up.

I cant believe it ran either,with a totally rearwards plug telegraph orientation.
BTW- the camshaft is what determines the dismissal order.The 95 HO cam uses the 351w/302HO firing off order while the older 302's utilized the Non HO/standard firing order. The casebook firing dictate would have only worked if you removed the HO cam and replaced it with a Non HO Cam.Well actually,if you would have wired the cap with the 15426378 liberation order,but set the wires in a CCW direction (instead of the CW focal point you used) on the cap,the engine would have started and ran,but driveability issues would deliver occurred.The following shows how the injectors are laid-off for some firing orders.
P= passenger side injector
D= device driver side injector
Atomic number 67= 13726548
PPDPDDPD
NON Atomic number 67= 15426378
PDPPDPDD
Do you get wind how the different firing orders will affect things injector wise?? How a D side injector release when it should atomic number 4 a P side injector fire??
Earlier model 302 Thunderbirds,Cougars,
Tip Vics,etc also used the Non HO order. If you would have got still had the efi system in situ and wired the detonator the likes of you did,the car would've never started because the injectors are also pink-slipped in sync with the firing order (i.e.- from each one injector is fired individually with each sparking plug)
The distributor is rotated CW to advance timing and CCW to half-wi information technology,but the rotor does indeed move in a CCW direction, when the railway locomotive is running.
